Too Many Kids on Meds?
You bet! See the experts (psychiatric, medical and legal) discuss this important subject.
In their words there is/are NO:
—studies that show brain abnormalities
—scientific evidence
—biological markers
—illness
—disease
A “depressed” child may be physically ill. A fidgety “ADD” child probably has a study problem. Don’t let anyone talk you into putting your kids on psychiatric drugs without finding out ALL of the dangers and alternative treatments. Children are a parent’s responsibility and you’re their first line of defense.

Right on with these last short posts. My son was "diagnosed" with ADD in grade school. They wanted to put him on ritalin. No way, my wife & I said. He is an artist, a daydreamer, a free spirited kid who did not respond to the cookie cutter memorize and repeat kind of conventional schooling that's all. A combination of private and home schooling through his middle school years saved him and he is a well adjusted adult today with a good career. These days there's a drug or a pill for everything. It's BS. It's all about love and feel and understanding and relating to each other as we are. We're all different.
Refusing to medicate a child these days takes guts. Sometimes it backfires on the parent (as "bad" parenting) and sometimes the kid won't be allowed back into the school. It's a terrible system that results in forced drugging and it prohibits parental control. You and your wife are to be commended. I know a woman whose child was so vacant, the first time I met her I felt like she was a black hole: sucking the life out of everything around her. A big void. One day I was discussing the dangers of these drugs with her mother—not in relation to her family, just the topic—and that's when she told me about her daughter. I said that there were lots of alternative treatments, like diet and nutrition. She actually laughed! She said it was much easier to give her a pill. This was her child (!), and she wanted the easy way out. Unfortunately, people can't always confront what they should do, instead they rely on the "simple" solution. Thanks, for your input Marvin.
